Her Time is a counselling and therapeutic support  service for Women experiencing -

  • Domestic and/or Family Violence Trauma therapy can assist in rediscovering or reclaiming one's true self.

If you have experienced any type of emotional abuse, verbal put-downs, gaslighting, mind games, silent treatment, intimidation, manipulation, rejection, dismissal, invalidation, physical or sexual abuse, or coercive controlling behaviours in your past, it can significantly impact your self-perception, relationships with others, parenting, and overall worldview.

Abuse and violence is carried out on a continuum. Suffering is experienced no matter where the abuse was on the continuum. Thinking that your experience is ‘not as bad as other’s is common for women survivors of abuse. No matter how ‘small or insignificant’ you feel the abuse you experienced is or was, what you are left with feeling is the most important.

Therapy can provide a valuable opportunity to comprehend how these abusive tactics have affected your emotional, physical, cognitive, social, and spiritual well-being.

At Her Time, our trauma-informed therapy approach prioritizes your physical and emotional safety, utilizing tools and resources to alleviate the distressing ways your body has learned to cope with abuse, while simultaneously building your resilience to overcome the trauma.

It is important to note that therapy does not necessarily entail recounting your story or reliving the experiences of abuse. For many women, revisiting these traumatic events can be retraumatizing. Instead, counselling at Her Time begins at your own pace, focusing on establishing trust, rebuilding, self-understanding, and reclaiming your sense of worthiness and rightful place in the world.

Domestic and Family violence experiences are never the fault of the victim/survivor even if you have been forced to retaliate or defend yourself.

It is crucial to ensure your safety and freedom from any form of violence before engaging in longer-term trauma counselling. If you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact Her Time.

  • Trauma - As Gabor Mate eloquently puts it, trauma is not solely about what happens to you, but rather the internal effects it has on you.

Whether trauma stems from a single incident/s of abuse, sexual assault, sudden death of a loved one, or workplace bullying. Or the trauma is complex for example, having lived in a domestic and family violence relationship or with ongoing adverse childhood experiences, trauma often leads to coping mechanisms that can profoundly impact your physical, social, mental, and emotional well-being.

These coping mechanisms may manifest as anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, hyperactivity, anger, resentment, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, depression, feelings of isolation, shame, desperation, caretaking or people-pleasing at the expense of your own needs, eating disorders, substance abuse, and more.

Seeking support for past traumatic experiences does not necessarily mean disclosing the specific events themselves, but rather finding support for the challenges you face as a result of those events. Trauma therapy at Her Time involves psychoeducation, healthy coping mechanisms, and building a relationship with the different parts of yourself affected by trauma.

  • Anxiety - Her Time counselling can help you understand why anxiety is impacting your life, identify triggers, and discover tools and resources that work specifically for you. Through this process, you can greatly reduce or eliminate the impact of anxiety and panic attacks on your daily life. Achieving freedom from anxiety or gaining control over it can be truly liberating.

  • Depression - Depression can manifest as feelings of numbness, worthlessness, sadness, and hopelessness. It can enter our lives for various reasons, such as anger turned inward, trauma or unresolved losses. Her Time provides a safe space for you to share what deeply impacts you, offering tools and coping strategies that can help you move away from depression.

Her Time will walk alongside you on your journey to recovery.

  • Low self esteem and/or low self-worth - Feelings of self-hatred, self-loathing, self-harm, shame, and not feeling good enough or meeting societal expectations can contribute to low self-esteem and low self-worth. Often, our self-perception is influenced by our childhood experiences, how we have been treated in relationships, and how we compare ourselves to others.

Building a respectful, healthy, and compassionate relationship with ourselves is essential for cultivating the same kind of relationships with others. Her Time can support you in learning or relearning how to have compassion for yourself, finding ways to deeply care for yourself, and recognizing your inherent worth and value.

  • Isolation - Many women experience a deep fear of aloneness or being alone, even from within their relationships. Isolation can also stem from the fear of letting go of relationships that no longer serve us, disconnecting from ourselves and the things that nurture the soul or being physically isolated from friends, family, or community.

Isolation and aloneness can arise from controlling relationships, faulty beliefs or behaviours that hinder our connections, trauma from family of origin, substance abuse, depression, and anxiety. Additionally, the various role changes women go through in life, such as transitioning from teenager to adult, changing jobs, becoming a mother, or experiencing empty nest syndrome, can contribute to feelings of isolation. Menopause and the ageing process can also trigger these emotions.

Her Time can assist you in reconnecting with yourself and others, which can greatly alleviate feelings of isolation and aloneness.

  • Anger & Rage - Women's rage, anger, or resentment often go unexpressed, unexplored, and misunderstood. Traditional anger management courses designed for men may not be beneficial for women. As a result, women who experience anger, rage, or resentment may struggle to understand why they feel the way they do or why they react in certain ways.

Many women also feel ashamed of their rage responses. At Her Time, we approach women's anger in the context of their lives. We help you understand what anger is, what contributes to it, and explore the unhealthy avenues through which anger is released, whether internalized, externalized, or misplaced.

Our goal is to help you understand and process anger and to find healthier ways to deal with this normal emotion in the future.

  • Grief and Loss - Losing someone, losing something important to you, or losing the dreams and hopes you had, can deeply impact us. At Her Time, we provide a space for talking, sharing, supporting, finding coping strategies, listening, and holding space for your grief and loss journey. Understanding what it means for you and finding helpful ways to navigate through the grieving process can be invaluable.

  • Feelings of craziness and/or hopelessness - Discovering that you are not actually "crazy" can be life-changing. It can also be transformative to realize that the life you are living may contribute to feelings of ‘craziness’. Women may be made to feel crazy or labeled as "psycho" in emotionally abusive relationships where manipulation, gaslighting, and mind games are used to control them.

Additionally, women are often expected to simply carry on, ignore their feelings and emotions, or are shamed into shutting them down.

Women with past unresolved trauma, those nearing their periods, experiencing perimenopause or menopause, pregnant women, working mothers, and those struggling to meet high societal expectations or juggle busy lives can all be impacted by feelings of craziness or hopelessness.

At Her Time, we can help you better understand yourself and your life, supporting you in enhancing your mental well-being.

  • Feeling Lost, Unsure, or just wanting to find a deeper, more meaningful life. Feeling lost, unsure, or desiring a deeper, more meaningful life is a common experience for many. At Her Time, we provide a space for you to explore what it means to be you.

This may involve examining patterns of behaviour that you are ready to let go of and discovering new ways of being. It can also involve understanding how your unacknowledged self influences certain behaviours that may impact the decisions you want to make.

Her Time is about nourishing your soul and creating a space that is dedicated to you. By gaining a deeper understanding of yourself in relation to your life experiences, you can feel empowered to live a more meaningful life.

Our work focuses on letting go of what no longer serves you, a process that many women intuitively engage in throughout their lives.

Her Time can help you reconnect with your intuitive self and rediscover your true essence.

  • Boundaries - Boundaries determine how you want to live your life. They protect us from harm, from losing ourselves in relationships, from being taken advantage of and they are always values-led. Learning how to instil boundaries without fearing the repercussions is often a long journey, especially if you were not permitted to have boundaries as a young child. Her Time can help you develop boundaries and how to keep them in place.

Living with the challenges mentioned above can be overwhelming and exhausting for many women. This can increase the risk of physical illnesses caused by stress and contribute to prolonged mental or emotional distress. If the coping mechanisms you have relied on are no longer effective or if you are tired of living life in a certain way, Her Time can assist you in examining what has been working against you.

We offer support where you need it most and help you untangle any confusion so that you can regain control of your own life.
